Few words about History

Authentique Pigeonnier du XVI ème siècle

The Manor is an old medieval fief – it was mentioned for the first time in 1298.The XVIIth century structure was built upon a more ancient base.
The most interesting part of the Manor is the dovecote, built at the end XVIth century. At that time only the nobility was allowed to own dovecotes. The number of pigeonholes depended on the scale of the domain (one for each acre of land). The 901 pigeonholes give evidence of the power and wealth of the Landlord.
Lately, our dovecote was turned into a very pleasant sitting–room, highly appreciated by our guests, containing a library with a large number of books at the disposal of the residents.

About the surroundings

The hotel stands just in front of a cycle path, leading directly to the “Loire à Vélo” (cycling itinerary running all along the Loire Valley), and the “Touraine – Loire Valley Wine Route” is only 300 metres away. Partly wild, with a wide array of plants arousing the curiosity of botanists, the Véron region, home to our hotel, has been inhabited for centuries, as attested by a large listed dolmen not far from the hotel.
Candes–Saint–Martin, classified as one of the 100 most beautiful villages of France, is only 10 kilometres away from La Giraudière, at the confluence of the rivers Loire and Vienne. Numerous English artists have chosen to live there. You can also visit, a few kilometres further, the famous royal abbey of Fontevraud founded in 1101, largest monastic ensemble in medieval Western Europe.
